Constitution Act - Section 35
In 1982 the Metis lobbied for recognition of Metis rights in Canada's constitution. Later when the constitution was patriated, it included section 35. Section 35 recognizes the Metis as one of Canada's Aboriginal peoples with rights. The Metis were finally getting recognized and given rights. The existing Aboriginal and Treaty rights of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada are recognized and affirmed. They are now protected and recognized along with the First Nations and Inuit.
